Hi Everyone. As you may have read, part of Week #2's assignment is to come here to the Blog and introduce ourselves.
Here goes:
I'm Mark Woosley, and I am taking 2 courses online: this one, and HIS11. I have to admit, this is the harder of the two of them. I did take CIS11 last semester at the Attleboro Campus, but I know that this course already seems significantly quite a bit more challenging. I hope I'm not alone in having read and re-read the chapters and notes several times. I think I've done the first assignment 4 times in order to both complete it correctly and to accomplish wrapping my brain around relational concepts; I'm not 100% sure that I've done either just yet, but I'm trying.
This is the first course I have taken that focuses on SQL and database relations, designs, etc. In my defense, I am good with computers in general, including networking and hardward configurations, in addition to most software.
I'm sure some of you are very good at SQL and Oracle. I'd like to hear from you. If anyone is insterested in a study group, I would be willing to host.
In addition to class, I work full-time at the Miriam Hospital in Providence in the Cardiology Department. I'm 34, and I live in Mansfield, Mass with my partner, Scott. We have 3 cats: Bonnie, Bailey, & Smokey Longtail; as well as one dog: Krystal (A hairless Chinese Crested.)
I'm not sure if these are the kind of introductions that Professor Grocer was looking for, but since I am the first, I took the liberty to post probably more than most people care to read...but if you got this far down my blog without snoring away, then congrats!

Hello everybody,

My name is Ian. I'm twenty-four and have just taken a full-time position as a development programmer in Canton, which I begin this Monday. I recently returned from France where I spent several months teaching English in elementary schools and am just re-establishing my life here. Before that I completed my B.S. at UMASS Dartmouth.
I am new to Oracle, SQL, and databases and am very much looking forward to learning as much as I can! I hope to hear from some of you as the course goes along, and I look forward to reading your introductions.

Hello my name is Evelynn, I'm 30 years old and have a 19 month old daughter, that loves to "help" me with my homework. this is my fourth class with Ms. Grocer, she is a awesome teacher. if you are having any trouble just ask and she will go through everything untill you do understand. And Mark you are not alone, I know I have to read the chapters and notes 2 or more times untill it clicks. Then sometimes it doesn't click untill i'm laying in bed trying to sleep. I'm sure we will all make it through the class together. Everyone have a great day.

Hi everyone! My name is Christina. I also had trouble downloading Oracle. I then downloaded Oracle10 onto a CD first and worked from there. I have dail-up(because of where I live, and I'm broke) but after downloading I still had problems with the login. After Googling it I found that the default username was system and the password is whatever you typed at time of login. Mark, with 9i the default username scott, password tiger and the host string oracle should work, notice I said should…A lot of students are having a hard time with this, but don’t give up guys! I’m not that familiar with Oracle either but if anyone wants to share their frustrations I can try to help, try :) my e-mail is cjneena@yahoo.com

I typed up a big paragraph as an introduction yesterday but when I went to post it, the site once again became unresponsive and crashed which happens frequently. Is anyone else finding this course a little overwhelming? I'm used to being the one GIVING the computer help so this is a turned table (no pun intended). Anyone having a hard time keeping up with the assignments, quizes, reading all the notes, handouts, extra this and that despite spending about 5 hours a day on it, and even more on weekends? I'd like to hear from anyone. DCB1221@comcast.net
