I'm still having issues getting Oracle downloaded and installed. I downloaded what looked like the 3 zip files needed to install the personal edition of 9i, but then when I extracted them, all the documentation refers to it as "Oracle 9i Server", (However there is a splashscreen in one of the folders that says "client".) My best guess is to install these files after creating a restore point on XP and reverting back to that restore if this is the wrong edition of Oracle. Anyone have advice or a direct link to the exact install file for the client software (Oracle database)?
I am trying to install Oracle 10g on Mac OS X and having quite a bit of trouble. Preparing the system for installation requires several manipulations using the Unix shell commands. I have successfully completed a good portion of them, but I am having some trouble modifying certain system configurations. If there are any Unix experts out there -- or even Unix proficient people -- I would be very grateful of any help. A Unix savvy individual could probably address the problems that I am running into quite easily.
I also had trouble downloading Oracle, but then got Oracle10 downloaded. But after installing, I couldn't login! It asked me to enter a password durring installation, but I couln't figure out the username??? After googling it, the username default is system. Scott tiger did not work for me.
I had plenty of trouble getting Oracle installed, and then still had no idea how to start it up, there was no help anywhere. I was on my own but got it running. I check e mail often, much more than looking here. I'll help with what I can: dcb1221@comcast.net
I had a difficult time getting Oracle installed as well. I eventually gave up and had the network administrator at my office install it for me. What a nightmare. Even he had issuses installing it. It was difficult to figure out where to even go after getting it installed. Now that I have, it is pretty straight forward. If I can help anyone in anyway, just let me know. I will try my best.
I installed 10g(vista version) and had all sorts of problems with it. Then I tried to delete it. Finally after a week or 2 of headaches I went back to a restore point in my computer to make a fresh start. Then I downloaded 10g(vista version) to a CD. Then I installed it and used scott/tiger as username and password. I works great now, even though I am so far behind the rest of the class.
